How CBD may help those suffering from ADHD!

There has been a lot of talk recently about CBD. Heralded as the new “Wonder Food”, it is said to help with everything from Epilepsy and Parkinson’s, to Anxiety and Inflammation. But how can CBD benefit those struggling with ADHD?

There are several factors causing ADHD. Two of the biggest are the speed and influx of neural impulses, alongside a deficit in a neuro transmitter called dopamine. This combination creates the perfect storm. There is simply too much information coming through and not enough dopamine in the synapse to adequately relay it. The result is short and incomplete bursts of communication between neurons. Think about it like this. Have you ever tried to talk with someone on a cell phone that has a poor signal? The conversation gets interrupted and fragmented. Now, just imagine something similar occurring between neurons. It becomes nearly impossible to focus or concentrate.

So how can might CBD help? CBD combats ADHD through a process called Retrograde Inhibition. When CBD enters the body, it interacts with the CB1 receptors in the brain. These receptors activate the body’s own endocannabinoid system. Naturally occurring cannabinoids are then released into the brain where they compete with dopamine for binding sites located on dopamine transporters. With fewer spaces available on these transporters, more dopamine is left behind and made available in the synapse. This allows for slower and more sustained communication to occur between neurons, resulting in an increased ability to focus, concentrate, and stay on task. This is all accomplished with virtually no side effects.

Research is continuously discovering additional benefits of this amazing plant. So, is CBD right for you?
